Project 737-300 2017

The Boeing 737-300, in Second Life Daniels Fall's D-737, in a Galactic Republic inspired theme following the Star Trek inspired Galaxy Fleet Command A-318 commissioned by Starfleet RADM. M. Firethorn, commanding officer of the Starfleet Academy in SL (see here).

Another challenge from RADM. M. Firethorn. The Star Wars themed bird was created using multiple Galactic Republic elements and inscriptions in Aurebesh, of which the Sith code tenets are prominent on the aircraft belly - Passion, Strength, Power, Victory. In the usual red, white, black Republic color scheme, the aircraft sports multiple Stormtrooper graphic elements and is designed as a "Galactic Republic Transport", as shown in Aurebesh on the fore portion of the fuselage. To signal the inspiration source the Star Wars 40th anniversary logo is shown on both sides of the nose.

Another unusual bird cruises the skies of Second Life, thanks to RADM. M. Firethorn's challenge. And again we are proud to say: "Mischief managed!"

Project SH-60F Oceanhawk 2017

The Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk has been the mainstay of US Navy helicopter squadrons since practically its introduction in the service. The "Seahawk" is the naval derivative of the ubiquitous land-based UH-60 "Black Hawk" series transport helicopters. Origins of the UH-60 go as far back as the 1970s to which the helicopter recorded its first flight on November 29th, 1974 and formally entered service with the United States Army in 1979. Over 4,000 units have been delivered and serving across multiple military forces around the globe. The UH-60 was then adopted by the United States Navy in a naval form with a first flight recorded on December 12th, 1979. Formal introduction into service occurred in 1984. The SH-60 remains the primary helicopter of the United States Navy, in various roles.

As such, as squadrons honored their respective CAG or Unit CO with a special livery that usually applied a unique design to the aircraft's aft body and tail, with the paint subject as varied as location of deployment, squadron's ensign, USN special occasions and so on, multiple examples of these unique aircraft were flown.

The private NF 610 inspired SH/MH-60's are delivered at Miramar.
Two photos of NF 610, BuNo 164460 in Japan. The real one.
The choice of this particular aircraft as the first historic SH-60 of this kind was due to a private order from a close friend whom I granted the making of a US Navy livery, which Eight Shades of Blue usually creates for S.L. U.S.N. squadrons only. The conditions were several, starting with the client's agreement regarding the "semi-exclusivity" of the livery, since the historical version would be assign a place in the S.L. U.S.N.. Also, the private version is not an exact replica, being more "inspired" by the model here shown. It was given a random SDN (618) and a private serial with an Eight Shades of Blue prefix and no digits (ESBVIC). There was also no HS-14 emblem applied to it. Having agreed to the terms the project was concluded and the work on the historical model for the S.L. U.S.N. started, resulting in the work you see above and mentioned in NAS Miramar's weblog (see here). Curiously enough, the same client likes this particular tail so much she wishes to have it adapted to several other helicopter types she owns, under the exact same terms applied to the SH-60.
But only the Navy has the BuNo 164460 NF-610.

Notes: The choice between the "Battle E" certification and the HS-14 eagle pods was not easy but I went with the pods - which I couldn't find in the "E" period photos. Also, due to the way the tail stabilizer is made it is impossible to apply a texture to it. A complete replica with "CHARGERS" painted on it would depend on Spijkers & Wingtips developing a new stabilizer.

Project A-318 2017

The Airbus A-318 is one of the most versatile aircraft in the 100 passenger range and, in Second Life, Daniels Fall's D-318 is its equivalent. There were other liveries made for this type by Eight Shades of Blue (one seen on the poster for The Grab event - see here), but the Star Trek inspired Galaxy Fleet Command A-318 commissioned by Starfleet RADM. M. Firethorn, commanding officer of the Starfleet Academy in SL, is the one shown here.

The challenge was to make a unique livery, worthy of a Flag Officer, to use out of the Star Trek timeline as a personal aircraft and at the same time make it a "recruitment flagship". Using the Milky Way as background for the overall livery and a stylized NCC-1701 Enterprise, the aircraft displays many of the common Star Trek symbols and designations, including Starfleet Academy's motto "Ex Astris, Scientia" (From the Stars, Knowledge) on the underbelly. By the owner's choice, the SL Starfleet Academy insignia is shown on the tail's vertical fin. The serial given the aircraft is GFC2161, after one of the most distinguished years in the United Federation of Planets history.

An unusual bird for an unusual owner. That's the beauty of Second Life and what makes us happy when the job is delivered and a big smile shows on the face of the proud owner.

[ update: 2017/07/13 - The client purchased an unlimited share license. Expect to see multiple Galaxy Fleet Command A-318's out there. ]

Project TA-4J 2016

The Skyhawk project came about when one of S.L. U.S.N. Third Fleet squadrons was having difficulties with the front line F-18 Hornets, Being virtually impossible to replace by a new F/A-18E/F package, a decision was made to bring to life an old glory of the Navy back to front line service: the Douglas TA-4J Skyhawk, powered and sold in SL by Shana Aircraft.

The liveries I chose for the project are made for the squadron in question, VF-154 Black Knights, and they are based on a high visibility U.S.S. Carl Vinson color scheme in blue with a darker tone tail. The decision to add the pilot's call sign to the jet intakes was taken for moral boosting purposes at a time when the squadron was recovering from the mothballing of the Hornets.

Project NH-90 2017

With the introduction of Spijkers & Wingtips NH Industries NH-90 in S.L. U.S.N. Third Fleet units, orders for a U.S.N. inspired livery came through and I chose the two tone gray white high visibility scheme used back in the 60's and 70's for HS squadrons, namely those equipped with Sea Kings.

The project involved two squadrons, HSC-22 and HSC-14, and asides the distinctive tail code that clearly identifies the aircraft's deployment along with the squadron insignia, I assigned a color code to the tips of tails and sponsons and the main rotor top guard to facilitate ID at first glance - a common practice when this color scheme was in use. The templates supplied by Spijkers & Wingtips do not include the texture for the main rotor guard so here is hoping Tig Spijkers will add it to the package soon. For purposes of accurate representation, the main rotor guard was painted on the HSC-14 aircraft profile (see below).

The NH-90 project will include a Navy gray and a Navy ghost livery for aircraft involved in other roles with these squadrons or others that may adopt them. Updates will be posted on this weblog when those are released.

Eight Shades of Liveries

Thank you for your interest in my custom liveries.
Here are a few things you need to send me in a note card for estimate purposes.

NOTE: Updates possible.
LAST UPDATE: 2017-07-14

1. Aircraft Model
2. Aircraft manufacturer
3. If the aircraft is not on the 8 Shades of Blue list do you have the manufacturer provided textures
3. Which livery would you like to have made
4. Is this a SL USN Third Fleet Order - if so IM me in character after checking with your Commanding Officer
5. Your SL name and screen name

What I do:
Eight Shades of Blue is a certified livery provider for all units in USNSL Third Fleet COMNAVAIRNAU. I am now expanding the operation to the general public so your livery may be any you wish - if I can make it or not will be a matter of what references are available and if the original manufacturer textures are accessible.

How much does it cost:
SL USN Third Fleet officers and enlisted have a special fixed rate. Other customers will pay according to the complexity of the job, which includes factors like reference quality and number of textures required.
For a customer outside SL USN Third Fleet, the minimum rate is 1,200 Lindens (which includes between 1 and 5 textures in the livery pack).
Orders for more than one aircraft (squadrons, airlines) will have a discount on a batch by batch case, variable depending on the quantity of aircraft.

Does the Aircraft Profile come with the livery:

For all customers the aircraft profile will be included for an extra 300 to 1,000 Lindens depending on the profile type. If the aircraft is not in the 8 Shades of Blue list the cost of the aircraft profile may reach 2,000 Lindens, depending on the work involved. Orders for more than one aircraft (squadrons, airlines) have no discount on the respective aircraft profiles.

What are the permissions on custom work:
All 8 Shades of Blue liveries are COPY, NO MOD, NO TRANSFER.
The Aircraft Profiles are COPY, NO MOD, NO TRANSFER and are an actual object (framed print).
All textures are protected by copyright © under LL TOS.
Product permissions are not negotiable.

How are the liveries acquired:
Depends on the application method. As examples, it can be an actual texture, an UUID, a note card or a third party application box/bucket.
Both livery and aircraft profile are set to buy for the customer inside an in world object. You are required to meet with me for delivery.

How long does it take to make a custom livery:
All orders will be fulfilled between 5 and 10 days of placement. If there are too many projects lined up, orders will not be accepted without full knowledge of delay by the client and acceptance of that delay.

How the payment is made:

A confirmation down payment of 10% of the total agreed upon is expected at the time of placement. There will be no refunds of down payments unless the 10 day limit is reached.
All sales are final, no refunds after delivery.

Any details not mentioned here will be object of discussion between myself and the customer and the order will be formalized in writing after the details are agreed upon by both parties.

I reserve the right to change any information here provided without prior notice.
