RCAF CF-188A Anderson Hornet

Available at the 8SB in world store - CLICK HERE TO GO BUY!

"In the year 2013, Major Gunnar Neiguffson of the Royal Canadian Air Force headed one of the most creative and in many ways most controversial Public Affairs programs in RCAF history – the Icons of Canadian Culture Tail Art Program, known by supporters and detractors alike as the “Celebritail” program." *

"At bases from Greenwood, Nova Scotia to Yellowknife, Northwest Territory to Comox, British Columbia, nearly 50 aircraft of all types, both fixed wing and rotary, were painted with portraits of some of Canada's most iconic individuals. The program was received with much curiosity, wide acceptance by aircrews and the average man on the street, but was also ridiculed by special interest groups. Feminists were angered when Pamela Anderson was chosen for the honor but not Roberta Bondar." *

"By the end of 2013, all aircraft in the RCAF inventory were to carry the image and story of a great Canadian cultural icon on its tail. It was an ambitious program, but then again, Major Neiguffson was an ambitious air force officer. Is it culturally significant? Is it art? We'll let you be the judge." *

This is a belated April Fools, Easter Egg limited edition livery!
Intended as an April Fools prank, this livery has been in the back burner for a few years, but I finally decided to release it as a Limited Edition. Fourteen units were made, twelve of which are to be sold in world only. Even if I have the real life author's permission to execute this livery, the use of Pamela Anderson would cause obvious problems in Second Life's market place. According to Dave O'Malley, the author of this design used as part of a very elaborate April Fools prank (see here!), there were no objections raised by the celebrities used in the tail art designs for this excellent article.

Here is Dave's reaction to my request, complete with images of this project, to place his design on a virtual aircraft model that would carry it in the skies of Second Life:

That’s fantastic Asra. Love what you have done, so please proceed with my blessing.

I would like to include it in the story so if you can send me some screen captures, that would be great!  I will credit and link to your game for sure.

A year ago, for various reasons, I shelved the project. Maybe because the current real life situation the world faces (Covid-19) I decided to release it this year. We can all use a smile on our faces. So hang in there, stay home, wash your hands lots and be careful. And if you are one of the twelve lucky ones who got this limited edition in time, go have some fun. You can always tell those who see you in the "Hornette" that it's a RCAF 2013 real life replica... Just make sure you wink when you do.

This LIMITED EDITION is only available in world at 8SB Main Store (SLUR here!) and at Shana Carpool's Main Store (SLUR here!). Twelve units only!

Note:
I am sending a link to this entry to Dave O'Malley. If he decides to use it as a complement to his April Fools "Tails of Glory" post I will re-link it here!

Enjoy your RCAF CF-188 Hornette! If you found one.

Project CF-188 A and B 410 TFS "Cougars"

Part of a large order that includes several special Royal Canadian Air Force liveries, Torbram Satinier requested four aircraft from the 410 Tactical Fighter Squadron "Cougars" in their standard colors. The project was made ahead of the release of market place versions of RCAF CF-188 A and B standards that will belong to another squadron, since this client has the 410 TFS standards exclusive. The two versions, A and B, of the Canadian license built F/A-18's known in Canada as CF-188 are out of factory aircraft without too much wear and tear, hence the almost pristine blue-gray tones on their liveries.

The B models are 410 Cougars replicas and the A models are alternate renditions of the single seat as if flown by the Cougars. Note that serial 188761 is usually a 425 TFS aircraft often used by the RCAF demo team - as was the case with the Battle of Britain demo aircraft in 2015 ( see here! ). Since all the specials ordered by the client were "Cougars" a decision was made to create alternate liveries of the CF-188A's with the requested serials 188757 and 188761.

410 Tactical Fighter (Operational Training) Squadron is the home of Canadian Forces CF-18 Hornet pilot training. Its mission is: "To Train World Class Fighter Pilots to Meet Canada's Needs."
410 "Cougar" Squadron runs two ab initio Fighter Pilot Courses (FPC) each year, training up to 20 fighter pilots. Each course comprises seven intense months of academics, simulator flights and flying missions. Graduates are taken from 419 Tactical Fighter (Training) Squadron (also known as NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) Phase IV) and then provided with the tools to develop a solid foundation in both air-to-air and air-to-ground fighter combat.

Areas covered in depth include basic and advanced aircraft handling, instrument flight, formation flying, night flying, all-weather interception, air-to-air refuelling, Basic Fighter Manoeuvres (BFM - "dogfighting skills") and air combat. The latter half of each FPC comprises academic air-to-ground weapons delivery and Close Air Support (CAS), as well as advanced Air Interdiction (AI) tactics - the former usually completed during a squadron deployment to the south-western United States in the late spring and early fall due to the significantly better weather and the sheer number of bombing ranges available.

Concurrent with this significant mandate, 410 Squadron is also responsible for training and re-certifying approximately five former CF-18 Hornet pilots annually. These are pilots who are returning to the CF-18 cockpit after a ground or exchange tour. Furthermore, 410 Squadron also trains newly arrived foreign exchange officers who will be joining one of Canada's two operational fighter squadrons. As their backgrounds can differ significantly, each course is tailored to the individual based on their experience and demonstrated competencies.
